Overview

The "Naenae College - Out of Touch, Too Much Risk" campaign aims to raise awareness and advocate for positive changes at Naenae College to address concerning issues and improve the educational experience for all students. Our mission is to encourage open and respectful dialogue among students, families, school administration and the wider community to collaboratively develop solutions that will enable Naenae College to provide an excellent, equitable education in a safe and supportive environment for every student.

Key Issues

Disproportionately high standdown rates for Maori students compared to the general student population

High number of former students who end up incarcerated

Very large number of behavior incidents recorded at the school in recent years

Unsanitary and unacceptable condition of student bathrooms, despite significant recent investment

High staff turnover and short average tenure compared to comparable schools

Inconsistent assessment practices identified by NZQA that advantage some students
